Promoting Community Based Sustainable Soil Management Practices for Increasing Agriculture Productivity and minimizing Poverty

The project was carried out in financial assistance of Helvetas/ Swiss Development Cooperation/ Sustainable Soil Management Program (SDC/SSMP) in 10 VDCs of Sindhupalchowk from April, 1999 to December, 2010. The project was mainly focused in capacity building of the farmers by providing trainings on Cooperative management, Groups mobilization, Leadership development, Saving and Credit, Gender and Social Inclusion and organizational management. The project also delivered trainings to farmer's group on off-seasonal vegetable farming, terracing, crop cycle management, farm yard manure management, bio-pesticide, rain water harvesting techniques, preparation of composting etc for initiating sustainable soil management practices. Farmers' groups were formed and regular technical support was given for initiating and strengthening sustainable soil management practices. The project It worked in close coordination and communication with VDCs, DDC, government line agencies especially DADO for cooperation, collaboration and partnership development for promoting soil management practices.
